Larantuka, Lisbon Formally Become Sister City

Larantuka, capital of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) provincial district of Flores Timur, and Portuguese capital of Lisbon have become formal sister cities following the singing of a cooperation agreement here Wednesday night.

Lisbon mayor, Ourem Paulo Fonseca, and Flores Timur district head, Yoseph Lagadoni Herin, signed the cooperation agreement at Jakarta National Museum on Wednesday night, Lagadoni said here on Thursday.

The signing function was also attended by visiting Portuguese president Anibal Antonio Cavaco Silva.

According to Lagadoni, during the signing function, Portuguese Ambassador to Indonesia, Manuel Carlos Leitao Frota promised to help promote the sacred celebration of Semana Santa, the procession of Good Friday or Sesta Vera which will take place in Larantuka.

The establishment of the sister city cooperation between Indonesia`s city and Portugal`s capital city was initiated by the Portuguese ambassador to Indonesia.

Lagadoni also hoped the sister city cooperation will help attract European tourists to visit East Flores.
